Wilayah is the last order from Allah?

Share

The Shia keep claiming that the Imamah or the Wilayah of their Imams was the last pillar of this religion and the last order given by God, The prophet SAWS was afraid to announce it so Allah revealed this verse “O Messenger, announce that which has been revealed to you from your Lord” after announcing it at Ghadeer Khum  Allah revealed this verse:  “Today I have completed your religion for you”.

That, dear reader, was the typical Shia story, let’s put it to the test:

A – Wilayah is not the final Pillar because Allah ordered Hajj after it.

It is known for all that according to the Shia narrations the Prophet SAWS announced the Wilayah of ‘Ali (ra) countless times before Ghadeer Khum, we provide a couple of examples:

1- al-Kulayni narrated in al-Kafi 1/187:

Quote

Ahmad bin Muhammad from ‘Ali bin al-Hakam from al-Husein bin abi al-‘Alaa that he said: I mentioned to Abu ‘Abdullah (as) our saying about the obedience of the successors, he said: Yes, they are the ones whom Allah said about them ” O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. ” [4:59] and he said about them ” Your guardian can be only Allah; and His messenger and those who believe, who establish worship and pay the poordue, and bow down ” [5:55]

2- al-Kulayni narrated in al-Kafi 1/189:

Quote

Muhammad bin Yahya from Ahmad bin Muhammad bin ‘Isa from Muhamad bin Khaled al-Barqi from al-Qassem bin Muhammad al-Jawhari from al-Husein bin abi al-‘Alaa: I said to Abu ‘Abduyllah (as): Is the obedience for the successors obligatory? He said: Yes, they are the ones whom Allah said about them ” O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. ” [4:59] and he said about them ” Your guardian can be only Allah; and His messenger and those who believe, who establish worship and pay the poordue, and bow down ” [5:55]

3- al-Mufid said in al-Ifsah pages 27-28:

Quote

“And if he says: “Tell me about the Imam, is this obligatory on the people or voluntary and those who know it get the extra reward and he who leaves it does not sin?” they said to him: “It is obligatory like the rest of the obligatory tasks in Islam.” If he says: “What is the proof for it?” they said to him: “The proof for it is from four sources, firstly the Quran, secondly the prophetic narrations, thirdly Ijma’a, fourthly Qiyas. As for the Quran then it is the saying of Allah “O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you.” [4:59] so it is required to know them and obligatory to obey them, like it is obligatory to know Allah ad his prophet SAWS and obey them.”

4-  Ibn Babawieh in al-Hidayah page 31:

Quote

“It is obligatory to believe that they are “those in authority” which Allah ordered to obey.”

5-  Grand Ayatullah Muhammad Sadiq al-Roohani says in Fiqh al-Sadiq 16/164:

Quote

“Fifthly: the obligatory obedience.
We can find proofs for their obedience from two sides, one side are the verses and mutawatir Ahadith which show that it is obligatory to obey them and that disobeying them is like disobeying Allah, like his saying (swt) in his book: “O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you.” [4:59]

6- ‘Ali al-Bahrani says in “Manar al-Huda fi al-Nass ‘ala Imamat al-Ithna ‘Ashar” page 35:

Quote

“And Allah (swt) through his wisdom has made the Imam and pointed to him and ordered his obedience:  “O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you.” [4:59] And the slaves have not fulfilled what they were ordered and they did not obey.”

B – Wilayah was the final pillar after Hajj.

The Shia story that we talked about above which states that Wilayah was the final pillar to be revealed and the final order from God before completing the religion, we provide a couple of examples:

1- al-Kulayni in al-Kafi 1/289:

Quote

‘Ali bin Ibrahim from his father from ibn abi ‘Umayr from ‘Umar bin Uthunayh from Zurarah and al-Fudhail bin Yasar and Bakeer bin A’yyun and Muhammad bin Muslim and Buraidah bin Mu’awiyah and abu al-Jaroud all of them from Abu Ja’afar (as): Allah ordered his prophet regarding the Wilayah of ‘Ali and revealed to him “Your guardian can be only Allah; and His messenger and those who believe, who establish worship and pay the poordue, and bow down” [5:55] and he ordered the Wilayah of those in authority but they never knew what it was so Allah ordered Muhammad SAWS to explain it like he explained Salat and Zakat and  Siyam and Hajj, when he heard this his chest tightened and he feared that they may reject the religion and accuse him of lies, so he tried talking to his Lord again and he revealed to him: “O Messenger, announce that which has been revealed to you from your Lord and if you do it not then you have not delivered his message and Allah shall protect you from the people.” So he accepted and declared the Wilayah on the day of Ghadeer Khum, he called to prayer and asked those who are present to inform those who are absent. ‘Umar bin Uthunayh said: they all said except for abu al-Jaroud: Abu Ja’afar (as) said: And the obligatory order (pillar) would be revealed after the previous obligatory order and the Wilayah was the final Fard(Obligatory duty) then Allah revealed:  “Today I have completed your religion for you”. Abu Ja’afar (as) says: Allah says: I will no longer reveal any more obligatory duties this is the final obligatory duty.

2- al-Kafi 1/290:

Quote

Muhammad bin Yahya from Ahmad bin Muhammad and Muhammad bin al-Husein all from Muhammad bin Ismail bin Basi’i from Mansour bin Yunus from abu al-Jaroud from Abu Ja’afar (as): Allah has made five obligatory duties on his slaves, they took four and left one, I said: will you name them? He said: The Salat and they did not know how to pray so Jibreel (as) descended and said: O Muhammad tell them when they should pray, then al-Zakat was revealed so he said: O Muhammad tell them about their Zakat like you did with the Salat, then al-Sawm was revealed so on the day of ‘Ashura the Prophet SAWS used to tell all the surrounding villages to fast on that day, then Ramadan was between Shawwal and Sha’aban, then al-Hajj was revealed so Jibreel descended and said: Tell them about their Hajj like you told them about their Salat and Zakat and Sawm. Then al-Wilayah was revealed on him on Friday on Arafah, Allah had revealed: “Today I have completed your religion for you” and the religion was complete with the Wilayah of ‘Ali (as).

3- ‘Ali bin Ibrahim narrated in his Tafseer al-Qummi 1/162:

Quote

As for his saying: “Today I have completed your religion for you” My father narrated from Safwan bin Yahya from al-‘Alaa from Muhammad bin Muslim from abu ja’afar (as): The final duty Allah revealed is the Wilayah and after it he never revealed a Faridah(obligatory duty) then he revealed “Today I have completed your religion for you” …

4- al-‘Ayyashi placed several narrations in his Tafseer 1/292-293

Quote

– From Zurarah from Abu Ja’afar (as): The final obligatory duty Allah revealed is the Wilayah “Today I have completed your religion for you” No duty was revealed after this until Allah took his Prophet’s soul.

– From Ja’afar bin Muhammad al-Khuza’ee from his father: I heard abu ‘Abdullah (as) say: When the prophet SAWS went to Arafah on Friday, Jibreel (as) came to him and said: O Muhammad, Allah sends his peace on you and says: Tell your nation: “Today I have completed your religion for you with the Wilayah of ‘Ali bin abi Talib and completed my favour unto you and accepted Islam as your religion” And I shall not reveal any more after this, I have revealed to you the Salat, the Zakat, the Sawm, the Hajj and this is the fifth and I shall not accept those four unless it is accompanied by them.

– From ibn Uthunayh: I heard Zurarah: Abu Ja’afar (as) said: The obligatory duty used to descend followed by the other and the Wilayah was the last of the obligatory duties so Allah revealed: “Today I have completed your religion for you” Abu Ja’afar said: Allah says: I will not reveal any obligatory duties after this one.

=========================================================

Based on the narrations stating that the duty of  Wilayah came after the duty of  Hajj at Ghadeer Khum, it is not allowed for the Shia to use any other narrations or verses that came before Allah revealed the Hajj, this mean that using the verse of  Wilayah or the Verse of the Zakat in prayer and other such verses is incorrect and useless.

So the Imami Shia must either accept that the Wilayah was revealed after Hajj and thus they have to drop all their arguments from verses and narrations before Ghadeer Khum, OR they have to accept that the Wilayah was announced many times before Ghadeer khum and this would mean that they have to drop the contradicting narrations which state that Wilayah was revealed as the final pillar after hajj.

    • Salam,

Shia say the leadership of `Ali was the last order revealed during the final pilgrimage. AT the same time they narrate many stories of how `Ali was appointed BEFORE the final pilgrimage took place, this is a contradiction.
