Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi (d. 204 AH) reports in his Musnad:

[Shu`bah told us, `Uthman bin al-Mugheerah told us, he said: I heard `Ali bin Rabi`ah al-Asadi narrate, from Asma’, or abi Asma’ al-Fazari, he said: I heard `Ali may Allah be pleased with him say: When I would hear a saying from the messenger of Allah (SAWS), Allah the majestic and magnificent would benefit me from it as much as he wills, `Ali said: And Abu Bakr narrated to me, and Abu  Bakr may Allah be pleased with him is truthful, that the messenger of Allah (SAWS) said: “There isn’t a slave who commits a sin, then makes ablution and prays two Raka`at, asking Allah for forgiveness, unless Allah forgives him.” Then he recited this verse: {And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves [by transgression], remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins – and who can forgive sins except Allah? – and [who] do not persist in what they have done while they know.} and another verse: { And whoever does a wrong or wrongs himself but then seeks forgiveness of Allah will find Allah Forgiving and Merciful.} abu `Awanah told us, from `Uthman bin al-Mugheerah, from `Ali bin Rabi`ah, from Asma’ bin al-Hakam al-Fazari, that he said: I heard `Ali may Allah be pleased with him say: When I would hear a saying from the messenger of Allah (SAWS), Allah would benefit me from it as much as he wills, and if another narrated to me I would make him swear that he heard it from him (SAWS), then I would believe him, and Abu Bakr may Allah be pleased with him said, then he narrated like the one from Shu`bah.]

Ahmad ibn Hanbal (d. 241 AH) reports in his Fada’il:

[`Ali told us, Qutaybah bin Sa`eed told us, abu `Awanah told us, from `Uthman bin al-Mugheerah, from `Ali bin Rabi`ah, from Asma’ bin al-Hakam al-Fazari, that he said: I heard `Ali say: When I would hear a saying from the messenger of Allah (SAWS), Allah would benefit me from it as much as he wills, and if a man from among his companions narrated to me I would make him swear, and if he swore to me I would believe him, and Abu Bakr had narrated to me, and Abu Bakr is truthful, he said: I heard the messenger of Allah (SAWS) saying: “There is not a single believing man who commits a sin, then goes and purifies himself properly, then prays, then asks Allah for forgiveness, unless Allah forgives him.” Then he recited this verse: {And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves [by transgression], remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins – and who can forgive sins except Allah? – and [who] do not persist in what they have done while they know.}]

Musa bin Haroun said: Not Majhool, because `Ali bin Rabi`ah and al-Rukayn bin Rabi` both narrated from him, and `Ali ibn Rabi`ah had heard directly from `Ali ibn abi Talib (ra) so if ibn al-Hakam’s narration was not pleasing to him he would not have placed him between himself and `Ali (ra).
Ibn Hibban: He reported his narration in his SAHIH.
